Le Meridien Apollo
Address: Apollolaan 2 - Le Méridien Apollo was formally known as the 'Apollo Pavilion'. It was opened in 1928, the year the Olympic games were held in Amsterdam. The Apollo Pavilion became a well known and popular spot for guests from the south side of Amsterdam. The Amsterdam Apollo Hotel was opened in 1962. It was the first hotel in the category to be opened after World War II. It featured 65 rooms and various banqueting facilities. Both the hotel and the former movie theatre Du Midi were designed by DSBV Ingenieurs- en architecten bureau, and both now appear on the National monuments list. The economic boom of the sixties resulted in an ever-increasing number of visitors to Amsterdam, both for business and for leisure. To meet the increasing demand for hotel accomodation, a new wing was added to the hotel in 1969. The hotel then had 140 rooms and could accommodate 265 guests. After a take-over by former Trusthouse Forte and sustained economic growth, the hotel was once again expanded in 1974 to 230 rooms and 445 beds. In 1991, Trusthouse Forte was reorganised and from then on presented as 'Forte'. As a result, the name of the hotel was changed from Amsterdam Apollo Hotel to Forte Crest Apollo. Forte Hotels bought Le Méridien Hotels & Resorts in 1994. Since 14th July 1995 the five star hotel bears the name 'Le Méridien Apollo'. In 2001 Nomura Group bought Le Meridien group.
